Welcome
The Jeancourt South African Meat Merino (SAMM) Stud started in September 1995 when we discovered the breed. The principals had found that the traditional South East crossbreeding program, using Border Leicester F1's as prime lamb dams, meant that the almost complete dependence on the returns from sheep meat was not maximising the advantage that sheep have over cattle: their wool. We organised to visit South African Field Days and eventually negotiated for the type of sheep that we needed using the following "needs list"
*Fertile
*Strong Constitution
*Growth
*White Merino Woool to fit with the traditional Australian Merino
We have, over the past 10 years, worked closely with recognised South African Prime SAMM studmasters to locate the style of SAMM genetics that we know work with the current merino industry. We now offer SAMM (and Afrino) stud and commercial stock, semen and embryos* for sale.
We hope that you will find the information you are looking for within this website, and please do not hesitate to contact us for any further discussion.
